Birmingham police to start enforcing lawn parking ordinance

Birmingham residents who park vehicles on their front lawns will soon be punished. Several months ago, the Birmingham City Council approved a city ordinance that prohibits parking in the front yard. Starting May 10th, the Birmingham Police Department will start enforcing the new law. Under the proposal, anyone parked in the front yard or on the sidewalk would first get a warning, and later a $50 ticket.

If the extra parking is necessary, a concrete or hard surface parking pad must be installed as a driveway extension or stand alone item. Simply put, no cars should be parked on the grass or sidewalks in front of your home. Just as a reminder, no parking is permitted on the center median on Clairmont Avenue or Crestwood Boulevard at Crestwood Park.
